This is the english version of the interview with The Deadthings that can be found on the dk666 website. To view the interview in it's true form with photos etc

After having been literally struck by lightning from
"When Hell Sleazes Over"
(I refer back to the review for greater details), Ep of long duration of the Australians The Deadthings, I have decided to exchange with Julian, singer of the band, in order to know this sensational act better than "hollywood zombies"...

1)Hi Julian, would you tell me something about The Deadthings' background for those people that are new to your band?
The Deadthings were formed in mid 2002 by ex Voodoo Lovecats Guitarist Leigh Van Hell (aka Chaos) , he and I pieced together various line ups until the one you see on the current debut CD. We have played the Australian Club circuit for the past 18 months forcing ourselves to get noticed by more and more people each time we play. In June 2004 we released our debut EP “When Hell Sleazes Over” that is available in the USA through Perris Records and CD Smash records, and our website at www.thedeadthings.com .We are currently looking for distribution in Europe and Japan, so if anybody can help with this please send us an e-mail.

2)You know that you could be "The next big thing" with a good promotion: you are bombastic as Twisted Sister, 50's horror B-movies addicted in the veins of Misfits, haughty, rebel, iconoclast as Motley Crue, sleazy as Pretty Boy Floyd, theatrical
as Alice Cooper...You seemto be perfect to metal kids, punk and glumster...
Do you agree with me?
Thanks for the kind words, I do believe that The Deadthings have the potential to be big in the
Glam/Punk/Metal/Goth circles, We do appeal to all those styles of fans , at our live shows there are people from all these kinds of lifestyles. Hopefully some big record exec will come in and sign us up to be the next big thing !!! I can only hope.

3)You speak about your music as "Graveyard Rock'N'Roll", would you tell to our reader what does mean "Graveyard R'N'R" for Julian Mephisto?
We use the Term “Graveyard Rock N Roll” as our way of combining all the styles that we blend to our sound such as Glam Rock, Metal, Punk and Goth. And because a lot of people find it hard to call us one particular style of sound , we thought we would give them something to call our sound.

4)Let's talk about your fuckin'cool debut Ep...would you describe it to our reader?
“When Hell Sleazes Over” is a six track Cd that features five tracks of Glammy, Punky Rock N Roll Songs about Horror, Halloween, Killing and The Devil . As well as a beefed up cover version of the Flock Of Seagulls 80’s hit song “I Ran”

5)"Welcome To My Horror Show" seem to be a kind of warning to the people listening "W.H.S.O.", a kind of intro to your
Nightmare/Hairspray world...is it the meaning of this anthem?
Not so much a warning, more of an invitation to come into our world of Horror and Rock N Roll. This song is our first single and we shoot the video for it soon in the coming weeks, we chose this song as the first single for the same reason, as we feel it’s a good way to introduce the band to first time listeners.

6)"Sign Of The Devil" is my favourite song, it seem to be a musical transposition of Milton's anthem "It's better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven" and so seem to invite people to the street of sin and decadence...It's better to reign with own rules than society ones...do you agree with me or i'm saying a foolish thing?
Yeah it’s a little similar , Sign Of the Devil is a song about someone who wants to reign on earth in the name of hell rather than obey all the rules on earth and only wind up serving in heaven.

7)Why should people buy "When Hell Sleazes Over"?
They should buy it for a leathal dose of Necro-fueled Rock that blends styles of many genres and bands.

8)What do you expect from the release of your debut cd?
I would like to think that we can expect to continue building our fan base by reaching people in other countries with our music, and eventually would like to be able as a result to play live to these people.

9)What your favourite band?
Can I have some more room to type ?? My favourite band of al time is an 80’s hair band called Black N Blue, I am a huge fan of this style of music like Pretty Boy Floyd, Big Bang Babies, Ana Black, Ratt, Motley Crue etc, etc,. But I also like The Misfits, The Decendants, ALL, Him, Sisters Of Mercy, KISS, The Cult. Plus a bunch of Metal like Priest, Maiden, Helloween., etc.

10)Julian i'm going to name some of punk r'n'r clichè, could you tell me your opinion in few words:
Sex: A fantastic pastime
Alchol: Another Fantastic Pastime (hears to Taboo Brew!)
Drugs: Not for Me
Loser Attitude: See it too often from other bands
Stage: Home Sweet Home
Street: Where we end up after most drunken nights of Rock N Roll
Groupies:
The second best thing about Rock N Roll, next to Rock N Roll itself !!
Look or Image: Super Important, who wants to watch a show with a guy in bad clothes ?

11)Your image seem to be influenced from 50's horror b-movies, what're your favourite one?
Our image is probably influenced a little more by later films like Dawn Of the Dead, Day Of The Dead and Night Of The Living Dead.

12)Julian who would be your dream band to tour with?
If I had a Time Machine, it would be Kiss on their Unmasked 1980 World tour, but since I don’t hav a time machine I would have to say Motley Crue if they reformed with the original line up.

13)Julian , any final words:
I would like thank, Family, Friends and Girlfriends/Wives, Perris Records and CD Smash Records, Alex for this Interview and most of all the people that come to our shows and buy our stuff and continue to support the band !!!
